Obituary for Gertrude Rose Prescott

Bangor – Gertrude Rose Prescott, 94, passed away peacefully in her home March 19, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1920, in New York City, the daughter of Robert S. and Annette (Moran) Rose.

Gertrude graduated from high school in Chapel Hill, NC and went on to finishing school in Switzerland. She met her husband and they traveled all over the world as he was of great value to the US government as a Foreign Service officer. She designed jewelry, hand bags, even designing one for the Duchess of Windsor. During the war she worked as a cartographer. Gertrude also taught English to Chinese officers while stationed in Taipei. She was a master gardener, enjoyed golf and tennis, sewing and knitting, but was passionate when it came to needlepoint.

Gertrude is survived by 3 sons: George and wife Mary Ellen of Virginia, Mike and wife Cheryl of California, and David and wife Brenda of Charleston; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anne Hillard of Cumberland Foreside and Edith Hopkins of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Francis C. Prescott in 1992; her sister Virginia, and her brother Robert.
