Obituary for Martha Kennett Gervais (Kennett)

Martha Kennett Gervais (Kennett)
Martha Kennett Gervais, 58, passed away on May 26, 2015, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bangor on September 13th 1956, the daughter of Roland and Esther (Ford) Kennett.
Martha graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1974. She received her associate's degree in 1983 and her bachelor's degree in 1989, both from the University of Maine. Over the years, Martha especially enjoyed taking trips to the coast, car rides in her little convertible, and spending time with her family.
Martha married the love of her life, Paul Gervais Sr., in 1985; they would be married for 22 wonderful years. Martha always said how much of a blessing it was to have Paul in her life, due to the deep connection and loving relationship they shared. They had two children, Alexander and Paul Jr.. Martha's greatest joy in her life were her children and sharing in their successes. She was the most encouraging, understanding, and supportive mother anyone could ask for. Martha will always be remembered for her devotion to her family.
Martha's husband, Paul Sr., owned and operated Paul's Restaurant and Speakeasy in Bangor for nearly 30 years. The restaurant was a huge part of Martha's life; in fact, it's where she and her husband originally met. Martha contributed in countless ways toward the restaurant's sustained success, something she was always proud of. Martha and her two sons operated the City Park Grille in Old Town from 2006 until 2012; Martha greatly enjoyed her time there. She was a social butterfly and absolutely loved spending time with all of those who visited and supported the restaurant.
Martha always looked for and found the good in all people. Her caring demeanor left an impression on all of those she came into contact with. She'll always be admired by those close to her for the positivity, strength, and grace she displayed during her life's most difficult moments.
Martha is survived by her two sons: Alexander Gervais and his girlfriend Megan Bishop of Brewer and Paul Gervais Jr. and his fiancée Courtney Gibbs of Bangor. Martha is also survived by her sister Nancy Campbell of Fryeburg; step-daughter Allison Gervais, her husband Chuck, and her children Maddie and Tyler of California; step-grandson Ben Cichanowicz of Portland; nephews Josh Campbell and Jared Campbell, their wives, and their beautiful children; and sister-in-law Sandra Gervais of Caribou. In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by her loving husband Paul Gervais Sr. of Brewer and her brother David Kennett of Parkman.
Martha wanted to thank everyone who was there for her and supported her throughout her life, especially during her illness, specifically Roland Verrier, Anne Knowles, Rick Lloyd, and Martha's "Monday Night Girls."
A memorial reception will be held 5 – 7 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Family Reception Rooms of the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St. Brewer. An after party to continue the celebration of Martha’s life will be at High Tide following the reception. Interment will be private for the family at Fairview Cemetery in Veazie. Those who wish to remember Martha in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Brewer School Dept., Attn: Gretchen Gardner, 261 Center St. Brewer, ME 04412.
