Obituary for Eleanor Faye Wellman

Eleanor F. (Ryan) Wellman, 86, passed peacefully September 2, 2015 at the Waldo County General Hospital. She was born June 8, 1929 in Brooks, Maine, the second of six children to Herbert and Hazel (Caldwell) Ryan. Eleanor grew up in Brooks and graduated from Morse Memorial High School. She married Graydon Wellman in June 1947. They had two sons, Michael David and Joel Graydon. Eleanor worked at Emple Knitting Mills in Brewer for many years. Eleanor carried her strong work ethic from childhood and adulthood into her retirement years where she was known at Harbor Hill in Belfast for helping her friends and staff alike. She was not one to sit idle, she was happiest when working. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, cooking, gardening and picking berries. She will be especially remembered for her love and acts of kindness to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her “Bam”. Eleanor made each of her six great-grandchildren baby Afghans. All who knew Eleanor will remember her for her quick wit, sense of humor and amusing sarcasm. She is survived by one son, Michael Wellman, and his wife Bonnie, of Winterport and their three children, Laurie and her partner, Salvadore Clouse, of Bar Harbor, Michael K. and his wife Megan, of Winterport and Joshua and his wife Tracey, of Winterport; great grandchildren, Connor, Isabella, Kacey, Graydon, Joey and Chase; her brothers Roland and Dennis and their families. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Graydon of 49 years; son Joel; sister Rita; brothers Herbert and Willard. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September 8, 2015 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. David Nichol, pastor of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
