Obituary for Geraldine Vera Bennett (Hamel)

Geraldine Vera Bennett (Hamel)
Geraldine Vera “Geddy” Bennett, 87, passed away peacefully, February 6, 2016, at Maine Veteran’s Home. She was born in Bangor, June 22, 1928, the daughter of Victor and Lillian (Hargreaves) Hamel.
Geddy attended Hampden Academy before marrying Everett Amos Bennett and settling down to raise a family. She spent many years as a homemaker, raising three sons and two daughters, before entering the workforce- first for Emple Knitting Mills, then later Sylvania. Geddy spent 22 years with Sylvania before retiring.
Geddy loved spending time at the camp on Schoodic Lake. She enjoyed birdwatching and learning all about the different varieties she saw. She was very social, and loved spending time with her lifelong Hamel Avenue friends, Betty, Betty, Sandra and Barbara.
Geddy was a wonderful mother to her children. She was known for her impeccable neatness, everything was always in its place- even all of her gadgets that she would buy whenever she saw a new one on TV. Geddy had a way about her, whenever she spoke, her children paid attention. She also had a sly, crafty wit that amused everyone.
In addition to her husband and parents, Geddy was predeceased by her daughter, Sandy Faulkner; her sister, Jeanette Schaft; and her beloved grandfather, Joseph Hamel. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Bennett and wife, Lori of Wilmington, OH, Gary Bennett and wife, Jan of Hampden, Michael R. Bennett and wife, Jane Marie of Brownville; daughter, Sue Ann Bennett of Hermon; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Victor Hamel Jr. of Mechanic Falls; and two sisters, Marjorie Handy of Glen Burnie, MD and Sharon Quincy and husband, William of Wallingford, CT. The family wishes to thank all of the staff of Maine Veteran’s Home for the care they took of Geddy during her years there.
A celebration of Geddy’s life will be held June 25, 2016 at the camp at Schoodic Lake. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
