Gertrude C. Nevells, 86, died peacefully April 12, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. She was born September 1, 1929, in Orono, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Martin) Lucas. Gertrude was educated at St. Mary%u2019s Catholic School in Orono. She worked at local shoe shops and the Orono nursing home for many years. Gertrude volunteered at the Orono Thrift Shop and was Vice President of the Orono Senior Citizen. She loved to play cards and games on her computer. Gertrude was a very loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved it when they would visit or received a new photo for her family wall. In addition to her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Donald O. Nevells Sr.; six brothers and four sisters. Also, by Joan Lucas who was a very dear friend. She is survived by three sons, Donald O. Nevells Jr., and his wife, Sally, of Orono, Ronald J. Nevells and his wife, Terry, of Lincoln, Mark A. Nevells and his wife, Barbara, of Carmel; two daughters Jacqueline M. Wilbur and her husband, Fernald, of Milford, and Beth Aucoin of Milford; grandchildren, Matt, Angie, Brandy, Ronnie-Jo, Ian, Brent, Brian, Nick, Adam, Nicole, Dustin, Jessica, and Brent; seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers Bernard and Kenneth Lucas; two sisters, May Ranco and Thelma Nevells. The family would like to give a special thank you to Gentiva, New Hope Hospice and Arcadia Home Care for providing such loving care for their mother. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday May 28, 2016, at the Riverside Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Orono. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main Street, Orono immediately following the graveside service.
