Charles Hamel, 72, passed away on November 27, 2016 at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 13, 1944 in Bangor, the son of the late Vernon and Gladys (Lowell) Hamel of Hampden.
A lifelong resident of Hampden, he graduated from Hampden Academy in 1963 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany.
Charlie enjoyed sharing his love of nature, along with hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He especially looked forward to visiting the
Mathers family in Island Falls during hunting season to visit, reminisce and trade hunting stories. Charlie will be missed by many. Steve and Carla Alexander were especially faithful and good friends through the years.
He was predeceased by his older brother, Robert Hamel; sister-in-law, Joan Moore and nephew, Brent Moore along with many nieces and nephews from Wyoming.
Charlie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Pamela (Cheney) Hamel of Hampden; daughters, Tonya and husband, Kirk Bethune of Bangor, Tiffani and husband Mike Maddocks of Hampden; son, Wesley and wife, Melissa Hamel of Hancock. There are eight grandchildren that will miss Charlie dearly; James Gilmore, Vincent Gilmore, Cameron Maddocks, Isaac Carson, Elijah Carson, Mehmet Carson, Mayzie and Declan Hamel.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where relatives and friends are invited to call 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
