HERMON - Paul Marshall Wilbur, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 21, 2017. Paul was born January 30, 1925 in Bangor, Maine to Bernard Atwood Wilbur and Rubye (Darling) Wilbur. Paul joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and served in WWII from 1942-1946 in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from his military service he returned to Bangor High School to complete his education and met the love of his life Phyllis E. Pierce. They were married on Oct 23, 1948. He belonged to and was Chaplin of the Marine Corps League Bangor Detachment #1151. He was also Chaplin of American Legion Post #200 in Hermon. Paul was Trustee and later Chaplin of V.F.W. Post #4633 in Hampden. Paul worked in sales and service for 42 years at Kinney Duplicator Company, Gass Office Products and Pine Tree Business Machine of Brewer, which he founded. Paul was an active member of the community. He joined Lynde Lodge #174 A.F. & A.M. Jan. 4, 1958 where he was a Past Master and member for almost 60 years. Paul was also a Past Patron of Jonathan Hunt Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star, an active member of Anah Shriners, and a current member of I.O.O.F. Triumph Lodge #119, where he was Treasurer for the past 25 years, past District Deputy and a past Noble Grand. Paul was also active in the Town of Hermon where he served on the Board of Appeals, Charter Commission, Town Council, and the Volunteer Fire Department. Paul also engaged in an active life of community service. He volunteered for the Eastern Agency on Aging, where he delivered Meals for ME, repaired wheel chairs at the Bangor Mall, and assisted with home maintenance. He also was a volunteer for over 25 years at Coles Land Transportation Museum in the Veterans Interview Program, where he touched the lives of thousands of school children with his storytelling. Paul remained active, golfing into his 90s. He also played cards, dominos, socialized with friends and family, and lived life fully, with a smile and love of life that showed in his clear, blue eyes. Paul never played a game of cards he didn%u2019t enjoy %u2013 win or lose. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Rubye (Darling) Wilbur, sister Edna Wilbur, brother Bernard Wilbur Jr. and wife Mildred, and sisters Nancy Slusser and husband Ken, and sister Sandra Tibbetts. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Phyllis E. Wilbur of Hermon, son Donald Wilbur and wife Laurie, son David Wilbur and wife Katherine, grandchildren Eric Wilbur and wife Marie, Katie Denty and husband Paul, Kara Wilbur Bensen and husband Michael, Joshua Wilbur and wife Kristy, and 8 great grandchildren: Eric II, Alex, Sadie, Sam, Oliver, Marshall, Henry and Finley. Paul is also survived by brother-in-law Dennis Tibbetts, sister-in-law Nancy Luttrell and husband Phil, sister-in-law Lois Spellman and husband Danny, along with many nieces and nephews.
