Obituary for Jacqueline Doris Dunbar

Jacqueline Doris  Dunbar
Jacqueline “Jackie” W. Dunbar, 88, passed away June 14, 2017, at a Bangor hospital, with her family by her side. She was born September 2, 1928, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Alvin and Marion (Moore) Wescott.

Jackie graduated from Ellsworth High School and was married to Ralph M. Dunbar for 66 years. She worked at Husson College and later at Eastern Maine Medical Center retiring in 1986. After retiring she was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. Jackie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer serving on many committees and was very active in the work of the church. She was awarded The Remember Me Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 by the Maine Healthcare Association for outstanding commitment of service in the community. Jackie was an avid skier, reader, and she and her husband shared the love of their camp at Georges Pond which she so fondly loved. She was a loving and caring mom and had a love for people.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Dunbar and wife Lisa of Chapin, SC, Michael Dunbar and significant other, Kathy Hall, of Brewer; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph M. Dunbar in 2014, a granddaughter Michelle Dunbar of Brewer, and a sister, Jeanne Ingalls.

A gathering to celebrate the life of Jackie will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Interment will be held later in the summer at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074; or to a charity of one’s choice.
