Obituary for Kathleen Irene Fleming

BANGOR – Kathleen Irene “Kay” Fleming, 89, went to be with her husband, parents, and her Lord, Jesus Christ, December 20, 2017, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born January 10, 1928, in Avondale, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of John and Phoebe (O’Neill) Trecartin.

Kay moved to Bangor as a young woman and met her beloved husband, Lynn C. Fleming Sr. They married in 1946 and together shared 54 years of marriage. Kay and her husband were active members in the Daniel Geagan, American Legion Post #98, of Brewer. She was a devout Christian and loved going to church. She was one of the early home daycare providers and later, she was a crossing guard for students at the Mary Snow School, making mittens for those children who went without. She will also be remembered for her wonderful baked goods and the many afghans she knit for so many people. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved sister, Hazel, who Kay took care of in the last year of Hazel’s life. She loved animals and rescued quite a few, including her last pet, Chubby, who she kept on her porch for a year until she was able to entice her inside. She is survived by her five children, Ann Webster, Lynn Fleming Jr., Nancy Robertson and her husband, Scott, Cindy Kelleher and her husband, Dan, Peter Fleming and his wife, Jackie; six grandchildren, Katrina Stamas, Marcy Soucy, Sarah (Fleming) Kearns, Olivia Kelleher, Robert Kelleher, Kara Pierce; and several great-grandchildren. Kay lived her last 5 years at Stillwater Healthcare where she was cared for and loved by many.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Thursday December 28, 2017, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, December 29 2017, with the Rev. Jack Williams, chaplain of Beacon Hospice, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversations and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service Friday.
