Sylvanus R. "Junior"  Tracy Jr.
HERMON – Sylvanus R. Tracy, Jr., 91 died February 13, 2018, at his home under Beacon Hospice care. He was born in Jonesboro, May 8, 1926, the son of the late Sylvanus R. and Grace E. (Bartlett) Tracy.
Sylvanus – better known as “Junior” – attended Ellsworth High School, before enlisting into the United States Army. During World War II, Junior served valiantly in the United States Army – 67th Armored Field Artillery Battalion and was an active combatant in the “Battle of the Bulge.” Following his Honorable Discharge on June 6, 1946 from the United States Army – he married his former wife of 65 years - Carrie Annie (Smith) Tracy – who predeceased him in May, 2009. In the Post-War period Junior distinguished himself as a semi-pro baseball player from Lamoine, and as a result of his activities, with Downeast Baseball over the years; was inducted into Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. Additionally, Junior captured the highlights of his 20 year baseball career, by authoring and publishing his manuscript – entitled – “Downeast Baseball.” Junior was a loyal member of the VFW Post No. 109, the American Legion Post No. 207, Lygonia Masonic Lodge No. 40 of Ellsworth, Bangor Singles Dance and Saturday Nighters Club, Holiday Ramblers RV Club, Good Sam RV Club, University of Maine Woman’s Basketball Team and loved attending services and events at the Hermon Baptist Church. Junior participated in all various veterans, memorial parades and events. Junior was fortunate enough to attend the “Honor Flight Maine” to Washington, D.C. in October, 2016, and visited all of the services memorials; especially proud of the WW II Memorial. Junior enjoyed intricate model building of sailing vessels and tin can model craft, he loved playing golf, participated in numerous tournaments and was a low handicap scorer, along with golf he enjoyed the outdoors and actively participated in hunting, fishing and camping excursions. His survived by his daughter, Linda L. Tracy and family, Tracy L. Franell and husband Keith Franell, Tricia L. Miller and husband Mark Miller, Donald J. Geiman, II, and great-grandchildren – Damon, Timothy, Sierra, Brandi, Canyon, and Hayden. Daughter Pamela J. Cushing and family – Clyde G. Cushing, II, Jodie L. Cushing and husband Darren Robinson, and great-grandchildren – Grace and Eli. Predeceased by his brothers – Rudy, Ronald, and Carlton. He is survived by his loving wife and dance partner of seven years, Virginia Foss Mattson Tracy, step-daughters, Susan P. Lahey, Nancy Foss-Yasko and husband John T. Yasko of Lunenburg, MA.; grandchildren, Michelle M. Nadeau and husband Troy A. Nadeau and predeceased David R. Eaton, Jr., great-grandchildren, Ashley M. Cookson and husband Ajay W. Cookson and great-great grandchildren – Audrey and Axton. The family wishes to acknowledge the unconditional and supportive care that was received by Beacon Hospice Team. A special thanks goes out to the two angels that provided compassion and dignity in his final hours – Janis and Heidi. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Hermon Baptist Church, 2496, Route 2, Hermon, ME 04401 – under the direction of Pastor Garnett Chute.
