Obituary for Miles King Grindle

Miles King  Grindle
Miles King Grindle, 89, passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side June 30, 2018, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born June 28, 1929, in Somesville, the son of Chester G. and Irene V. (Miles) Grindle. Miles graduated from Gilman High School in the Class of 1948. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force as a jet mechanic during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Janette Rumill, on October 30, 1949. Miles was a member of the American Legion in Northeast Harbor as well as the Northeast Harbor Masonic Lodge. He also served as a Town Selectman for the Town of Mt. Desert and served on the Mt. Desert Water District committee. Throughout his working career he sold insurance for his own insurance company, the Knowles Company and with L.S. Robinson Company. He also co-owned Atlantic Temporary Employment Agency. He served on the vestry for St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Seal Harbor, and later in life became a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor. Miles was also known as a local author having written several books, and his true passion was painting water scenes. In addition to his parents, Miles was predeceased by the love of his life, Janette (Rumill) Grindle in 2011; and a brother, Hollis B. Grindle. He is survived by a daughter; Cheryl Marie Grindle of Seal Harbor; a son, Christopher Miles Grindle of Bangor; a brother, Austin “Scoop” Grindle; grandchildren, Brianna, Cassidy,and Kayla; a great-grandchild, Owen; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the C Unit staff of Maine Veterans Home for their wonderful care, and LaWanda Tanner of Beacon Hospice and her team for the care they provided Miles.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, July 7, 2018, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 225 French Street, Bangor, with Rev. Marguerite A. H. Steadman, Rector, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the undercroft of the church following the service. Interment at Eddy Cemetery, Eddington, will be at a later date.
