Shirley Florence  Henderson
Shirley F. Henderson, at 95 years old, died Friday, July 6, 2018, at EMMC after a brief illness. She was born in West Greenwich, R.I. on July 8, 1923, the daughter of Jerry and Nellie Johnson.

Shirley graduated from Coventry High School. Following graduation she married Walter Henderson and they resided in Coventry, R.I. Walter worked at Quonset Point Naval Air Station as a naval aircraft mechanic. In 1955 they moved their family to Fort Fairfield, Maine. Shirley’s employment included working for the Fort Fairfield Newspaper, The Review, and as a payroll clerk at O’Donnell’s Trucking Company in Presque Isle, Maine. Upon retirement they relocated to Hampden and began traveling the country in their Airstream.

In her free time Shirley enjoyed quilting. Her family members were the recipients of her handiwork and creative masterpieces. She was known for being an excellent cook and was famous for her homemade strawberry rhubarb pie. Shirley loved playing cards and scrabble with family and friends.
Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Walter; son, Chad Henderson; brothers, Floyd, Jerry and Ronald Johnson; and a sister, Marjorie Langlais.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Gail McCarthy and husband - William, and their children Daniel, Noelle, Michael and wife - Esmeralda, and Joseph and wife - Irene, all of San Diego, and daughter Terry Anderson and husband - Bruce, of Mercer Island and their children, Katie and husband - Kyle, of Woodinville, and Todd and wife - Amanda, of Mercer Island; great grand-children, Landon, Payton, Harper, Mikey and Buji; sisters, Edna Keim, of North Carolina and Carolyn Gendron, of Idaho; sister-in-law, Ginny Johnson, of Nashua, New Hamphire; as well as several nieces and nephews including, Jeffrey Henderson and wife – Jackie, of Escoheag, R.I., George Fowler and wife - Lori, of Smithfield, Mary Fowler, of South Portland and Elizabeth Fowler, of Lewiston.

Shirley’s daughters want to thank the Sylvia Ross Home and Manor for their dedicated care and kindness that they provided to their mother. They appreciate the loving care that was given to Shirley at EMMC in the final days of her life by the medical staff and especially by nieces, Lori Fowler, Elizabeth Fowler, Mary Fowler, and granddaughter, Noelle McCarthy.

A family memorial service is planned for the Fall in Portland, Maine.
Memorial contributions in Shirley’s name may be made to CHCS Hospice and mailed to 42 Cedar St., Bangor, ME 04401. Please memo checks with your name and Shirley’s. Shirley’s family would like to express appreciation to the staff at EMMC and VNA Hospice for the care that they provided her.
