Obituary for Gary Lee Adams

Gary Lee Adams
Gary L. Adams
LEVANT – Gary L. Adams died unexpectedly at the Bangor VA on July 9, 2018 - his 78th birthday. He was born July 9, 1940, the son of Omar and Shirley Adams.
He was a hard worker; it was what he knew. He spent time in the military, he hauled grain and he farmed, but mostly, he drilled wells, a job that he worked for more than half his life. He married Priscilla Brown in 1975; they celebrated their 43rd anniversary in May.
Gary was a fiercely loyal and unexpectedly gentle man. Every child got a piece of candy, every baby got fussed over and every pet got table scraps. He absolutely adored every kid that crossed his path. He was a longtime dog lover who came around to cats late in life thanks to the appearance of a stray he named Roscoe. He loved Westerns and NASCAR, especially John Wayne and the late Dale Earnhardt – “my buddy Dale” as Gary insisted on calling him.
He was unwaveringly generous toward family, friends and strangers alike. He was proud and funny, a legendary cut-up among the coffee crew at the corner store and – alongside his brothers and sisters and the rest of his family – a notorious troublemaker (in the best possible way). He loved with unapologetic boldness and would fight hard for what he believed to be right. He wasn’t much of a joiner, but he did manage a few terms as town selectman in Levant and was a member of Masonic Lodge #137 in Kenduskeag.
Gary is survived by his wife, six children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His daughters: Lorraine A. Roque and her husband Joseph, of Bethlehem, CT; Tammy L. Petersen and her husband David, of Oxford, CT; Sue Blasavage and her husband Michael, of Oxford, CT; and Elizabeth Adams of Bangor. His sons: Gary L. Adams II of Brewer; and Allen L. Adams and his wife Sheridan, of Bangor. His grandchildren are Ashley L. Stange, Erik Stange, Ian Stange, Caitlin Petersen, Bryan Petersen, Matthew J. Adams, Courtney L. Adams and Nickolas Perrow. His great-grandchildren are Sebastian Stange, Brooklyn Myers and Kaylii J. Adams.
In addition, he is survived by numerous brothers and sisters. His brothers: Galen Adams and wife Nancy; Harold Adams and wife Susan; and David Adams and wife Marie. His sisters: Joyce Allard and husband Dennis; Abby Taggart and husband Chris; Beverly Millett and husband Dan; Caroline Bisaillon and husband Izzy; and Debbie Roach. He’s also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Verna and Gloria and his brother Peter.
All are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 13 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. in Bangor; there are also visiting hours from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. led by Keith Cousins. Interment will follow at Waugh Cemetery , Levant. The family invites relatives and friends to join them afterwards at the Hungry Hollow 76ers Snowmobile Club, located on the Horseback Road in Levant, for memories and refreshments.
