Edna L. Bragg

Hampden - Edna Louise Bragg, 106, passed away peacefully February 14, 2012 at a Bangor healthcare facility.  She was born in Hampden, April 1, 1905 the daughter of Andrew and Annie (Tyler) Ellis. 

Edna was lovingly called Nana by family and many friends. We loved Nana and feel so blessed to have had her for so long. She lived in Hampden most of her life. Much of that time she lived on the Coldbrook Road where early on a car was a rare sight and electricity had yet to come. She made many lifelong friends there while she and her husband were bringing up their son, George Jr.  She and George Sr. moved to the Billings Rd., Hermon from 1971 to 1991. Following the passing of her husband, George W. Bragg, Sr. she returned to Hampden at Roe Village where she lived for 17 years. Many at Roe Village became like family to her. At the time of her passing she had been a resident of the Phillips Strickland House, Bangor for 2 years. She enjoyed living there and was looking forward to getting back home.  She was one of the founding members of the Coldbrook Road Christmas Club which still meets today over 75 years later. She also enjoyed being a member of the Hampden Senior Citizens.  Edna always had a beautiful smile and positive attitude.  She was asked on her 105^th Birthday what the secret to her longevity was, she said “being happy” and “don’t worry”.

Edna is survived by two granddaughter’s, Susan Hall and her husband William of Hampden and Nancy Coyne and her husband William II ‘Chip’ of Londonderry, NH, 5 great – grandchildren; Michael Hall and Karla, Timothy Hall and wife Lisa, William Coyne III and wife Kristen, Patrick Coyne and wife Cynthia and Katie Chapman and husband Devin, 7 great-great-grandchildren; Anthony and Garrett Hall, Ciera Coyne, Ryan and Aiden Coyne and Liam and Shea Chapman. She was predeceased by her son George W. Bragg, Jr. in 1989, her husband of 64 years, George W. Bragg, Sr. in 1991 and by her daughter-in-law Constance ‘Connie’ (Cormier) Bragg in 1996.

Family and friends may visit 4-7 P.M., Friday, February 17, 2012 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, February 18, 2012. Interment in the springtime will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Memorial gifts in Edna’s memory may be made to Philiips Strickland House, 21 Boyd Street, Bangor, Maine 04401.
