Norman J. Prouty
Hampden and Veazie-Norman J. Prouty, 83, passed away October 26, 2011 at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor after a short illness. He was born in Veazie, November 10, 1927, the son of Norman and Minnie Prouty.
Norman attended Bangor and Brewer schools and served in the U.S. Army. The majority of his working life was spent selling automobiles, both at dealerships and at his own used car lots. He won many trips and awards as a result of his successful sales ability. Norman was also a building contractor in Veazie and built many homes there. He enjoyed Shrine activities as a member of the Foot Patrol and Go-Karts. One of his favorite pastimes was playing golf, especially in Florida where he wintered for 21 years. Foremost in his passions was his dedication and love of family. Countless hours on the River Road, Prouty Drive, Springy Pond, Beech Hill Pond and Florida were enjoyed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Hodgins Prouty, and six beloved children Norman and his wife Wanda, of Hampden; Thomas and his wife Joan, of Westbrook; J. Randolph and his wife Pat, of Wilson, NC; Timothy and his wife Ann Marie, of Portland; Richard of Phoenix, AZ.; and daughter, Joanna Powell and her husband Jim, of Lake George, NY.; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Oase, of South Windsor, CT.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Edgar and sister Leona Wallace. Norman, Normie, Dad, and Grampie will be missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to visit 6-8 P.M., Friday, October 28, 2011 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, October 29, 2011, with the Rev.
