Hampden and Bangor – Phoebe Milliken O’Palenick, 96, passed away peacefully May 15, 2010 at a Bangor nursing facility. She was born in Cherryfield on July 25 1913, one of the 11 children of Zephaniah and Grace Tibbetts.
Phoebe worked for several years at Hampden Telephone Co. before going to work at Bangor Mental Health Institution. She had a wonderful life as a mother of 5 sons. She lived in Hampden for over 40 years where she was an active member of the Hampden Senior Citizens, and later in Bangor at Sunbury Village. Her faith in God was unwavering as she was an active member of the Christian Missionary Alliance, known today as the Neighborhood Church. Phoebe also enjoyed winters spent in Zephyrhills Florida. She possessed a magnetic personality and was loved by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl, two sons, Dale and Leslie, her second husband George O’Palenick, a beloved granddaughter, Carlene, sisters, Grace Vague and Edna Black, brothers, George, Maynard, Alan, Leslie and Louis. She is survived by three sons, Robert C. Milliken and wife Mary of Somers, Connecticut, James F. Milliken and wife Charlene of Bangor, and William Milliken of Southwest Harbor, step children, Elaine Day and George O’Palenick 17 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit 4-7 P.M. Monday, May 31, 2010, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden where a funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday with the Rev.
