Rodney A. Porter

Newburgh – Rodney Allen Porter, 68, passed away peacefully June 6, 2012 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his loving family. Rodney was born in Newburgh July 22, 1943 to Percy M. and Belle O. (Peirce) Porter.

Rodney grew up in Newburgh before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Rodney worked as a civil engineer at the City of Bangor's steam plant and later for the Hampden Fire Department for more than 25 years. Rodney loved being outdoors working in his gardens, boating, snowmobiling and spending time with his family. Rodney will be remembered by all, for his kind heartedness and gentle smile, and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Rodney is survived by his wife Lorraine L. (Smith) Porter of Newburgh; two sons, Robert A. Porter of Belfast, and Scott L. Porter; a grandson Zakk Rodney Porter both of Newburgh; a brother Dana Porter and wife Carol; three sisters, Clara Reed, Dorothy Richardson, and Cleora McCoy; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rodney was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Richard.

A private graveside service for Rodney will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Newburgh. Memorial contributions in Rodney's honor may be made to Maine Veterans Home, Unit C, Bangor, ME 04401 or to the Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation, Inc., 29 Crest Loop, Staten Island, NY 10312.
