The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Christine Deal can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Meeting and Knowing Christy.

Christy and I had an immediate connection when we met at a meeting in Bangor.  My accent gave me away.  She wanted to know my background. She told me that she had graduated from the American High School in Brunssum, which is very close to my hometown in the Netherlands. My old babysitter actually lived in Brunssum while Christy went to school there. We would talk on the phone for hours. She told me about meeting the Pope. She told me about her grandparents, who she loved dearly and missed so much.  She told me about her brother, Billy, and the deep connection she still had with him. She told me about her nieces, who she loved unconditionally. Even after I had to leave Bangor, we stayed in touch.  Two-hour long conversations in the evenings were the norm.  We discussed her grandmothers' recipes. Christy loved to cook.  Making gnocclhi with her German grandmother was always a special treat for her.

Christy, I often pick up the phone to call you and only then realize you are no longer here.  That is when I miss you the most. You were such a good friend. You were a good friend to so many women and always stood ready to help them.  The last time I talked with you, you told me "I am going to fight this, Paula.  I'm fighting hard."  But this was one fight you could not win, Christy.  I am so sorry for that.  When I go to sleep at night, I think of you and imagine you together with your "Billy," and your grandparents.  And I say a little prayer for you.  I repeat what you always said when I told you a friend of mine had passed away.  "May Your Eternal Light Shine Upon Her, Lord."

I miss you, my dear friend.
