Baked Beans

One of the many creations I loved, made by my Aunt Julia was her "Baked Beans". Julia was a wonderful cook, and her beans were a wonderful memory I always loved. While I never had the bean pot to make them, one day after moving back to New Hampshire I found an old bean pot in an antique shop. After looking through my mom's old recipes I found Aunt Julia's recipe for her baked beans, written in her own beautiful penmanship. I made the beans that Thanksgiving as a side, and everyone loved them! Today, they are a requested side dish and they come out perfect each time. Aunt Julia taught me to knit, crochet and to dress well. She had excellent taste, and she and I loved looking through the catalogs for the latest styles. It is because of my Aunt Julia’s choice in a husband, that I knew the kind of man I wanted to marry. Her choice of a husband in Uncle Galen assured me that truly patient, kind, and loving men really exist, and if I were very picky and lucky I would find one too. Aunt Julia was a wonderful sister to my mother, Marlene. She was always there for her, and she always brightened her day. Thinking of the two of them, no longer in pain, reunited and catching up on everything after so many years helps with pain of the loss, knowing she’s now no longer with us.
